Hey ya’ll! Hope you are having a good Thursday. I know I am or at least my stomach has been having a happy today. I have been looking forward to Thursday all week. I had a meeting about my trip to Israel then my brother and I had plans for an awesome dinner date. Usually we go somewhere on campus, but this time we decided to venture a little further away. A couple of weeks ago we were driving in a local foodie area in Austin and we saw a sign for this sushi place. Roll On. A sushi diner? That sounds like the greatest concept ever. That day we decided this was where we would go on our dinner date. Best choice we have ever made. Not even joking. The sushi was reasonably priced, the rolls were creative, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere was fun.
Inside the diner. Yes it actually looks like a diner inside with sushi chefs in the middle instead of deep fry cooks. Greatest concept EVER.
Hello to the Count. Oh god. Mouth orgasm. Not even lying about this. I had a life changing moment when this roll entered my mouth. Turkey, ham, swiss cheese, tempura, and powdered sugar and strawberry jam to rub the entire roll in. I have never tasted a roll like this. It was like sweet, but savory at the same time. Definitely one of my favorite rolls of the night.
My brother ate the entire stack in like 2 minutes, so I wasn’t able to catch a photo until I got a piece myself. You seriously can’t keep sushi in front of him for more than 5 minutes because he will consume it all. This was the DY-NO-MITE roll. It totally lived up to its name. A mix of crab, shrimp, and some varieties of cream cheese. Really you can’t go wrong with cream cheese. In sushi it makes everything better.
The reason I love this place the most is that they are so creative with their rolls. Who would think of having an egg roll wrapper with a banana, chocolate, peanut butter, and BACON in it? Roll On did. They named it after one of my favorite flavor combinations too. The Elvis. Let me tell you it was amazing. I wanted to take the plate and lick all of it up when we were finished. It was like a sushi dessert. Best way to end the meal.
Oh the Grouch. You would think with a name like that it might not be something so good or it would be trash related, but oh no no. This roll may have been my favorite. The aioli sauce was spicy, which balanced out green chile chicken and caramelized onions.
The Cholesta Roll. Mashed potatoes. Chicken Fried Steak. All served on top of gravy. Southern comfort food in a sushi roll. It couldn’t get any better than this.
This was a simple roll, but so delicious. Spicy Tuna Crunch Roll. So delicious. That is why I love this place. They even take the classic rolls and make them special. Roll On is extremely affordable, so if you ever want to go out on a nice date for a low price this is the place to go. If a guy took me here I would be instantly in love with him. Not only is it good for dates, but if you want a night out with your girlfriends, they offer $5 sake bottle with a beer. Can I say sake bombs anyone? Party at the diner. I can’t forget to mention that one of the owners was extremely friendly and not bad on the eyes either. Overall it was a great night with my brother filled with great food.
